The subservient zombies in the UK listening to the government rhetoric about 'work being the best route out of poverty' are being hoodwinked. As are those who a stupid enough to believe in 'trickle down economics'. Hey, I have news for you... It doesn't work!
It has often been said that Britain is a Meritocracy. Let us look at this definition...
Definition from Oxford Languages ·
noun: government or the holding of power by people selected according to merit.
"progress towards meritocracy was slow"
a society governed by people selected according to merit.
plural noun: meritocracies
"Britain is a meritocracy, and everyone with skill and imagination may aspire to reach the highest level"a ruling or influential class of educated or able people.
"the relentless advance of the meritocracy"
Well, maybe politicians might tell you this is the case. But who are they kidding? More accurate definition:
I would describe Britain as a plutocracy. At least, that is how it has been since the 1980s. If that were not the case, then why is there such out of control inequality? The facts speak for themselves.
Definition from Oxford Languages ·
noun
government by the wealthy.
"the attack on the Bank of England was a gesture against the very symbol of plutocracy"
a state or society governed by the wealthy.
plural noun: plutocracies
"no one can accept public policies which turn a democracy into a plutocracy"
an elite or ruling class whose power derives from their wealth.
"officials were drawn from the new plutocracyTrying to work your way out of poverty in the UK feels like being a hamster on a wheel. 'Just run faster!', says the government. But what is the reality? The faster the hamster runs.. the more exhausted it gets... But it's going nowhere.
Remember what a certain Boris the liar Johnson was saying about the 20 Universal Credit Uplift being recoverable through 2 hours extra work? Well, all I can say is that they certainly do not teach arithmetic at Eton, because when you factor in the tax, national insurance, the universal credit taper rate (you lose 63p for earning 1 *before tax!*), you would have to work for nine hours to actually get 20. And that does not include any transportation and childcare costs.
All this in the country which gave us George Orwell. If you do not want to be a hamster, vote with your feet - or rather, with your passport.
Well, I do not want to be a hamster, or, for that matter, a zombie. Two and two cannot add up to five, as George Orwell told us. And, if you read Dick Whittington, be assured that the streets of London are not paved with gold. They are covered by the tents and sleeping bags if the homeless. And as a divorced man, I have put up one hell of a fight to avoid becoming one of them. Those in my close circles will know intuitively what I mean when I say I am a fighter, not a quitter. For everyone else, there is the video above. Enough is enough.
